"Surreal in the Ordinary"

The art of Hipgoo is an intimate journey into the Surreal in the Ordinary. She began drawing as a child, finding a natural joy in a world surrounded by friends who also loved to create. Today, she finds inspiration on daily walks, turning her keen eye to the small, playful details of her surroundings—from tangled pipes to a stubborn weed breaking through pavement. It’s this unique perspective that defines her work, which often depicts the unusual as if it were a normal part of life.

Her style is a beautiful contradiction, combining a polished, digital finish with a rebellious love for imperfection. Working primarily with Clip Studio, Hipgoo intentionally adds irregular details and subtle humor to prevent her images from feeling too sterile. Her work is deeply influenced by the rough edges and wit of rock, punk, and post-punk music, a genre she believes shares her artistic philosophy. This approach results in a vivid, personal color palette that makes her images feel alive and imbued with a quiet, yet powerful, sense of humor.

Hipgoo’s collaborations speak for themselves. A highlight was her work with Netflix US on the Squid Game social media campaign. She also created the poster, program book, and teaser animation for the theater production ‘The Sun,’ which aligned perfectly with her taste. She finds meaning in her recurring illustrations for the student magazine ‘독서평설,’ which allows her work to connect with a younger audience on a regular basis. Looking ahead, she dreams of collaborating with a band, creating visual work that captures the raw energy and understated humor she loves in music.
