Ke Yu is an illustrator whose work is rich in narrative and carefully crafted details, creating a world that is Modern and fun to look at. Her artistic identity is built on a desire to express her true self through art. Her early inspiration came from the highly imaginative work of Yoshitaka Amano. Ke Yu’s personal creations often depict a sense of solitude, unconsciously portraying confused, chaotic states while attempting to break free from them.
Her creative process is a unique blend of heritage and technology. She begins her line art using traditional Chinese brushes and ink on paper, drawing inspiration from sources like Tibetan thangka paintings and Qing Dynasty designs. She then scans the line art to apply color digitally in Photoshop, seamlessly bridging traditional technique with modern execution. This method allows her full control over the image and her limited color palette.
Ke Yu’s proudest achievement is completing a full ink-illustrated picture book with a story she wrote herself. She is highly capable of live work, having conducted multiple live printmaking workshops for UNIQLO. Her ultimate dream project is to design an illustrated silk scarf in collaboration with Hermès, valuing their mature production system and respect for illustration art.
